A Peacock?

On the way to work this morning, I had to slow down to let a peacock cross the road. Where did a peacock come from? That was odd. Do people keep peacocks as pets?
A couple of weeks ago there was a hot air balloon trying to land in a field beside the road as I went to work about 7:30 in the morning. Strange stuff. Just wanted to share.

Call it gym, P.E., recess, or pure hell, most people have participated in a class at school that focused on games and athletics. What sport or game did you hate the most when you were a kid? What sport or game was your favorite?

I hated volleyball! I made a B in health/PE once all because I failed the volleyball test. I didn't like much in PE in high school. In younger grades I liked free play on the playground. Tennis is ok, but we never played it at school. In college aerobics was a good PE class; dance would have been ok too.

I'm very bored tonight. My husband is playing video games. I'm looking at recipes online finding to decide what to bring for my sister's baby shower. We did some yard work, then I made fajitas for supper. Not much else; I feel very lazy. We should have done more outside since the weather was nice again, but it gets dark so early now. We will definitely walk tomorrow.

I could bake something else, but we don't need anything. There are still left over cookies from Friday's lunch at work. Usually all of my oatmeal cookies are eaten at work. I don't think I put them out early enough. Next month I'm making something else. I'm the only one expected to bring the same thing every month anyway. I can cook other things besides oatmeal cookies! Maybe people are getting tired of them and won't notice if they aren't there next time.

What's everyone else doing tonight? Anything exciting?
Maybe I should do some more house work since I'm so bored or dye my hair.

Edit: And my foot keeps going to sleep sitting here!

I like Tigger, but I don't think I could deal with all that bouncing while trapped in an elevator. Tigger might cause me to have a panic attack.

We've had some rough weather today coming from what's left of hurricane Fay. I wasn't sure I was going to make it to work this morning. I couldn't see anything but the lights of other cars because it was raining so hard. Then in the afternoon, there was a tornado warning because one was spotted in a nearby town. I was in a meeting at a middle school. The kids had to go into the hall and crouch. They let us continue our meeting, but I was a little nervous because there was a lot of extra furniture in that room. I recently had a dream about a tornado, too. The tornado never came near us though. Coming home from the gym tonight, there was a flooded area on my road. I found another way home. This hasn't been as bad as Hurricanes Floyd and Fran, but still it's the worst weather we've had in awhile. Something about those f named hurricanes in NC. Poor kitties stuck outside :( I wanted to sneak them in, but then my husband would probably not be able to breathe tonight. Which reminds me I need to call him to let him know about the flooded road. I hope people are driving carefully tonight. A lot of them weren't this morning. I don't understand how people can continue to drive 60 mph or more when they can't see where they're going.

There's always something wrong with it. Finally I got the pin in place so it doesn't drag the ground. I planned to mow the yard today. Guess what? It won't start. I just put a new battery in it last year so that shouldn't be the problem. Tim is at work with my car because his is in the shop so I can't do anything about it today. Hopefully my neighbors won't complain.

Wedding

The ceremony went pretty well. It was hot, but at least it didn't rain. Since Tim had to work Friday night, we didn't have a real rehearsal. Only problem was when the pastor asked who was giving me away. (I walked down by myself.) No one answered. My dad didn't show up, although I wasn't planning for him to give me away even if he did. Finally my sister spoke up and said her mother and I. Thank goodness for her. Otherwise everything went smoothly. The ring bearer (my nephew) was complaining and the flower girl needed to pee, but that's normal for kids in a wedding. The rose garden looked beautiful. I was pleased with the flowers. I bought them at Whole Foods and made the bouquets myself. No problems at the reception. I don't have a good picture of the cake yet. It was $80 from Target and surprisingly good. A lot of my flowers weren't blooming yet (like they are now), but my yard looked ok anyway. Here are a few pics, mostly self explanatory. The lady in pink is my mom and would probably kill me if she knew I put her picture online. The last one is my sister signing the marriage license. I don't know why some of this is underlined. Wedding Updates: Last night I had a dream that everything went wrong with the wedding. I was glad to wake up from that.
I got my dress altered for only $15! It's still a little big, but I think I can make it work now. I need to find out where to get our marriage license and finalize what food we're having. I wanted to repaint the railing on my porch and refinish my cabinets, but I don't think I'm going to have time for all that. I still need to finish the yard work.

I'm almost done with work, just 2 meetings tomorrow, and that's it so I'll have more time soon. Gotta work out extra too. I had a good workout tonight, but I ate a lot of junk food at a work party. Cake, ice cream, and a brownie! Ugh! I hate when I do that.

It's only a month until the wedding. That and work is why I haven't been on lj as much lately. Work is busy with all the transition meetings for preschool children going to kindergarten next year. The wedding is almost planned. I thought a small wedding would be simple, but there's more to do than I expected. I still have to make a decision about food, decide what I'm doing with my hair (veil or no veil?), and finish planting flowers in my yard. Still a little honeymoon planning to do too. I think that's it. Hope everyone is good.

Grocery shopping on Friday night

I was in the grocery store at about 10 tonight. I saw several high school or college age girls in there all dressed up like they were going out. Just wondering what they were doing. It's not like there's any night life around here. I've gone to the grocery store with my friends at night, but we weren't dress up that much for parties at home. Of course they're usually small parties.

Now I'm home watching 13 Going On 30. What an exciting night.

I'm starting to hate my Tivo. It keeps freezing up on me. I have to unplug it to reset it which makes it worthless. If I'm not home and it's frozen, it's doesn't record. I wish cable would come out here. It was easier when I could return it and get a new one. I had to buy it with satellite. It's probably not worth it to get it fixed.

My cats won't leave me alone tonight. I don't know what's going on but they're taking turns rubbing all over me. One of them has to be near me at all times.

Work is very busy these days. It always is at this time of year. I hate scheduling preschool transition meetings. Do you know how hard it is to coordinate a meeting with the school SLP, a kindergarten teacher, the parents, and an interpreter for half of them? Especially at schools where the SLP and teachers don't want to work with me.There's only 37 days of school left which is great in one way, but also seems like so little time to get all of the meetings done plus continue to work with the kids. I always worry, but it always gets done.

We had good weather today so that made me happy :) nice and warm and sunny

It's back to real life and work on Monday. I don't feel like I accomplished enough this week. Before today all I had done was shopped for birthday presents and mowed the yard. Today I did more yard work, mopped, took out the trash and recyclables, went to the gym, and got my car washed. I got very little wedding planning done this week. I talked over some ideas with my mom and called about the park where I want to have it. I have to send in a request to the park people, but they won't even look at their summer schedule until mid-April so I just have to wait. It's only three months from today!!! I'm still looking at honeymoon plans too. Oh well, it will all get done at some point. I still have to vacuum tonight and maybe go grocery shopping. Oh I did decide on bridesmaids dresses. I found some decent ones for $60. I hope they look good on everyone.

It's official!

Tim finally gave me the ring Saturday so we're "officially" engaged now. He did a good job picking out the ring. No big proposal story since I knew it was coming soon. He gave me lilies and some bath & body works stuff, then said he had something else and gave me the ring.
He doesn't understand why everyone is congratulating us now that I have the ring. He says everyone's like "hi Tim" then go straight to me to see the ring. Really it's only the women; the men haven't done that. I can't believe how much different everything is now than just 3 years ago. Even 2 years ago I wasn't sure I ever wanted another man. Now I've found a great one that I actually want to marry.

Why do some cats hate getting flea medicine so much? I went into the laundry room and closed the door to open the meds so Snickers wouldn't know what I was doing. As soon as I try to put it on her, she goes crazy trying to get away and scratches my arm. She left a big scratch even through my sweatshirt. If she hears me getting the opening the Frontline package, she immediately runs away and hides. My mom had a cat that would run away if you just opened the drawer that had the medicine. Now Jax, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind it too much.

We might have some icy roads in the morning. I hope not. I'd love to have some snow but not ice. Either way, it's going to be miserably cold and rainy.

The good news: UNC won and Duke lost last night! That's all it takes to make a good night for me. Also good I ordered a wedding dress last weekend. Now to plan the ceremony and the honeymoon and get the ring. My mom actually seems excited about the wedding. She thinks we should have it in my front yard and has all these ideas for decorations and flowers. Anyone ever been to a wedding at home?

Yuck, I have a cold and my sinuses hurt. I just took some off brand Sudafed, but it's not working yet. I have to skip the gym tonight. I hate skipping the gym, but I don't think anyone wants me coughing and sneezing on them or the equipment. I have to skip Wed. too to go wedding dress shopping. That's exciting, but I'm definitely going to feel fat this week. Hopefully I'll feel better by Thurs. and can get a good workout then.

Last week I told my b/f that I was having a good winter and haven't had as many colds as usual. So much for that. It's hard to stay healthy when kids cough and sneeze right on you.

I didn't have any water yesterday. I'm about to go home, and find out what the situation is today. I'm praying the water is back on, and that there aren't any cracks in the pipes. More than likely my pipes froze Sunday night when I was not home.
Sometimes I don't like being a single homeowner :(
